PPSSPP is an emulator for the Sony PSP console. It allows to play PSP games on PC in excellent conditions.
Released in 2004, the Sony PSP is the first attempt of the Manufacturer in the field of portable console. It aims to challenge the omnipotence of Nintendo in this market. The machine also has a very different philosophy of its competitor, the Nintendo DS. The latter put on a public machine robust, relatively cheap and has a touch interface that will attract new players. The PSP is itself designed to provide experiences worthy of home consoles, plus a comprehensive set of multimedia services. Because the console also lets you listen to music, watch videos, and incorporates a web browser. Its screen of excellent quality and its general line positions it as a high-tech product quite luxurious, which will not allow it to reach the sales volume of competition. Especially since the offer of game remains moderately attractive at first time.
Over the years, however, and the release of popular games (like Monster Hunter), the PSP will pull out of the game and eventually flow to 80 million copies which, contrary to popular belief, is a true success. The PSP is high and hundreds of games including a great crowd like titles: Final Fantasy Crisis Core and Dissidia, the Patapon, the Locoroco, P3P, the Wipeout, Parasite Eve Third Birthday, Monster Hunter 3, the Lumines, the Disgaea, etc.
The PSP is a complex machine, however, it has a well-known CPU that features bookstores effective dynamic recompilation. Emulation top level of the graphics allows a PPSSPP to achieve good emulation speed on any reasonably modern machine. Better, it offers a range of tools to improve the rendering and playing PSP games in HD, in better conditions than on the original console. The 3D graphics can indeed be rendered in high resolution and enjoy antialiasing, textures are upscalées (via XBRZ algorithm) and filtered.
The software also offers the usual services for an emulator (instant backups, etc.) and goes even further by also offering advanced features such as: real-time access to the contents of the main memory, video RAM, and even disassemble the program on the fly.
PPSSPP is free, open source and available on Windows, Mac, Linux, but also, and this is one of its strengths, on many mobile platforms: Android, Symbian, Maemo, Blackberry, Pandora, etc. PPSSPP is relatively simple to use and does not require BIOS. There are a few settings rather complex to understand, but the default configuration works with many titles. This is probably one of the best emulators of its kind.
